Megillot Esther (Scroll of Esther)
This scroll is made from lambskin and dates back to the early 1600’s. It was to be read at the Feast of Purim, the Feast of Lots, and it commemorates events that occurred during the Babylonian exile in the ancient city of Shushan, as told in the Book of Esther.
The Geneva Bible (Breeches Bible) 1602 AD Folio Edition
Due to a passage in Genesis describing the clothing that God fashioned for Adam and Eve, upon their expulsion from the Garden of Eden as “Breeches” (an antiquated form of “Britches”), some people referred to the Geneva Bible as the “Beeches Bible.” The Geneva Bible was the first Bible to add verses to the chapters so that referencing specific passages would be easier. Each chapter contained extensive marginal notes and references that were so thorough and complete that the Geneva Bible is considered to be the first English “Study Bible.” In his plays, William Shakespeare used thousands of quotes from the Geneva translation of the Bible. The Geneva holds the honor of being the first Bible bought to America. It was the Bible of the Puritans and the Pilgrims. For over 100 years, the Geneva Bible became the Bible of choice for English speaking Christians.
